Claire Kitching, an employee at Devon-based All Aboard Preschool, was keen to improve her knowledge in leadership and to learn how to streamline procedures within the setting she is currently employed. Claire also harbours an aspiration to become an owner of a preschool.

Upskilling has enabled Claire to make best use of her newly honed leadership skills in the immediate term, as well as prepare her for when she progresses into the role of 'business owner.' 

Level 2 NVQ in Lean Organisation Management Techniques

Aspire Training 

Claire worked with Aspire Training, one of Serco's network of expert training providers chosen to deliver the SSW programme in the Heart of the South West region. Aspire have expience in supporting businesses who operate in the education, early years and care sector, with Aspire's founder having previously set-up her own childcare business. Approved by City & Guilds, Cache and Pearson’s to offer a range of courses to staff working within the care or business sector, Aspire have experience of meeting individual Learner's needs through tailored courses. 

Flexible training, tailored to workplace situations

Claire undertook a Level 2 NVQ in Lean Organisation Management Techniques over a 3 month period. With access to both hard-copy and online resources and workbooks, Claire also had to carry out additional research above in order to complete each unit effectively. The course covered; continuous improvement techniques, principles and techniques of workplace organisation and working effectively in a team, including understanding the role of team leader. Claire took specific interest in the time management unit and understanding how staff performance can affect and/or support an organisation's bottom-line.

Claire was a keen and focused participant from the outset, who ensured that evidence requested was completed in a timely manner. Through a positive and pro-active approach, Claire has attained the understanding neccessary of how Lean Management techniques can not only support her own understanding but how they can support and have a positive effect on organisational outcomes. 

Outcomes following training

Successfull completion of this course has enabled Claire to upskill with regards to knowledge of management techniques and therefore enabled her to support her Employer to achieve and implement actions which streamline processes and increase efficiencies. This has become specifically evident with regards to renewed time management processes and the company's approach to increasing productivity.

Claire's confidence to be able to support the preschool's management team has grown following the course and she would definately consider future learning to further help mould her career and reach her aspirations to become a small business owner.
