Skills Support for the Workforce

Oakfield Construction Civil Engineering

Oakfield Construction Civil Engineering is a groundworks and civil engineering construction firm based in Nottinghamshire. Their staff needed to undergo training to obtain CSCS cards so the business could be more competitive.

The team is made up of experienced and knowledgeable construction workers, who receive a high level of on-going health and safety, and environmental staff training. This enables the company to work effectively, efficiently and most importantly with health and safety at the forefront.

How SSW helped

As a civil engineering contractor the business is required to hold confirmation of skillsets in the form of CSCS cards, and as the business was expanding the need for this training was even more important.

Oakfield Construction met with Construction Skills People who conducted a bespoke skills needs analysis. It was identified that the NVQ Level 2 in Construction Operations and Civil Engineering – General Construction would benefit the staff the most due to them needing CSCS cards.

The business found out they could access this funded training through the Skills Support for the Workforce programme.

14 staff undertook the training which was delivered on-site. This meant it was flexible and there was no disruption to site progress which was important. Please note the training took place pre-COVID.

The Outcome

As a result of completing the training, so far 7 of the employees progressed within the business and 1 employee has gone onto further education.

Feedback has been very positive, with staff having gained more confidence and the business seeing increased productivity.

Furthermore the business has noticed a change in attitude towards training on the back of undertaking the programme. It has demonstrated the business is willing to invest in their employees which has ultimately boosted staff morale.
