Skills Support for the Workforce

Red Industries

With sixty-five employees, Red Industries specialises in both Waste Management and Industrial Cleaning. They have recognised that their people have excellent technical skills, but there is a need to improve leadership and management skills within the business. They identified Skills Support for the Workforce (SSW) as a great opportunity to build these skills through accredited management courses.

How SSW Supported Red Industries

Delivered by Business Development Midlands Ltd, one of SSW’s expert training providers, thirty of Red Industries’ people undertook training through SSW, with ten completing Level 2 Effective Team Member Skills, another ten completing ILM Level 3 and ten completing ILM Level 4. As SSW is co-financed by the European Social Fund and the Education and Skills Funding Agency, Red Industries were able to access the training at no cost to their people or the business.

Their National Sales Manager has been really enthusiastic about the course and has used her training to review the structure of the company sales team, resulting in a restructure to improve their customers’ experience. A number of those who completed the Level 2 training have benefited from the course, using it to build up their skills and confidence to gain promotions to Team Leader positions and are now progressing onto Level 3 training. The wider business is also considering further development opportunities, due to expressed interest, for Level 5 and Level 7 ILM training for Senior Managers.

One learner reflected on their training as the “best thing I have done for years”.
