Skills Support for the Workforce

Taylor Hart Ltd

Since 1988 Taylor Hart Ltd have been providing both commercial and public sector clients, from HS2 (a new high-speed railway) to student accommodation projects, with suspended ceilings and dry wall installation services. With twenty-six employees, they have identified retaining and recruiting high-skilled staff as a challenge for their business in the current job market. Taylor Hart Ltd selected training through SSW to increase productivity as they would not have to move staff between sites to complete jobs.

How SSW Supported Taylor Hart Ltd

Having worked with Construction Skills People (CSP), an expert provider chosen by the SSW programme to deliver training, for a number of years previously, Taylor Hart Ltd were made aware that funded training was available through SSW. As SSW is co-financed by the European Social Fund and the Education and Skills Funding Agency, Taylor Hart Ltd was able to access the training at no cost to the business.

CSP worked with Taylor Hart Ltd to conduct a training needs analysis, highlighting the business areas that would benefit from training. Twelve members of the Taylor Hart Ltd team undertook training in the following areas:

  • Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Plastering – Solid
  • Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Interior Systems – Dry lining fixing
  • Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Interior Systems – Dry lining boarder
  • Level 1 NVQ Award in Understanding Carbon Awareness and Energy Management
  • Award in Removal of Non-Hazardous Waste

With a goal to make their workforce more multi-skilled and flexible, Taylor Hart Ltd felt the training achieved this. The face-to-face training was arranged to fit in with work schedules, meaning there was minimal impact to their operations.

Taylor Hart Ltd have found that their clients have responded positively to the additional training, particularly due to acquisition of further qualifications such as Blue CSCS Skilled Worker cards as a direct result. Their workforce agreed that the training was worthwhile and of benefit to them.

Taylor Hart Ltd are considering additional training via SSW, particularly at Management level.
