Cyber attacks have become more inevitable than ever due to our reliance on computers, networks and online activities that makes us vulnerable.

As a business, what are some examples of risks that you could face:

  • Ransomware; this is a type of malware (malicious software) that encrypts data. Hackers will then agree a ransom with the business to release an unlock code. This commonly occurs via malicious emails.
  • Phishing; hackers will pose as a trustworthy contact, e.g. a business contact or service provider, to gain sensitive information from a business. Phishing emails look convincing with logos and correct use of language.
  • Data Leakage; this can apply more to smart phones and tablets due to their ever-increasing popularity and the way they store information.
  • Hacking; this is the attempt to gain access to IT systems, bank accounts and other databases that may hold valuable data for cyber criminals. It can involve manipulation and deceit, e.g. making staff reveal usernames and passwords by deceiving them.
  • Insider Threats; as an organisation with employees, there is always a risk that data can be leaked internally both accidentally or maliciously.

There are ways to reduces these risks, including:

  • Malware protection
  • Software updates
  • Employee Awareness
  • Encryption software

In addition to the above and many more, upskilling an existing member of your team to provide advanced cyber security for your business is a great way to provide maximum security that can keep up-to-date with cyber criminals.
