Tailored one-to-one support helps learner achieve Functional Skills

7th Jul 2023 Adult Skills for Work

Erica had previously completed Functional Skills training and wanted to progress with further training to develop her Functional Maths skills. Erica lacked confidence in this area but she knew she needed to keep learning to improve her Maths skills to achieve her career goals.

Functional Skills courses are perfect for people like Erica as they are an alternative pathway to GCSE’s. They provide essential practical skills in English, Maths, and Digital Skills. And can lead to employment or further education opportunities.

Group training didn’t suit Erica’s style of learning. Through Adult Skills for Work, her Skills Coach took this into account and tailored sessions with one-to-one support were provided through training provider partner Pathway Group. This meant that Erica was given the right support to enable her to succeed in her learning, which she did.

After completing the training course Erica’s confidence increased and she went on to achieve her Level 1 and 2 qualifications in Maths.
