“I was a registered young carer and often found myself worrying about my mother who was a recovering brain tumour and heart patient also suffering from diabetes.
“As a graduate looking for work, I was always having to put this into consideration, ensuring work locations weren’t too far from home in case of emergency situations. After completing a four month language scholarship trip to China I had found myself unemployed, unable to also claim Job Seekers Allowance and support myself.
“Fortunately, I was approached by Asmara (Renaisi’s Inspiring Families Programme Manager) at the Jobcentre who took the time to listen to my story and believed in me. Asmara told me about an opportunity to apply for an admin role advertised at Renaisi and successfully coached me through CV building and interviews. I was interviewed for the role of a Programme Administrator for the RISE contract.
“I was successful in the interview and started working at Renaisi. Whilst working, the support received from the Inspiring Families Team didn’t stop; financial barriers that would have otherwise meant an inability to maintain work were overcome through the In Work Travel Support scheme. I did not have to worry about expensive and unaffordable travel to work costs. Furthermore, ongoing conversations with my advisor challenged me to develop and build on personal skills through training and pursue career interests. Seven months and several 1:1’s later, I had been promoted to a new Project Manager Role working at Renaisi’s Head Office.

The Inspiring Families programme is an initiative designed to help individuals facing multiple and complex family issues to get back into work. It is funded by the European Union through the European Social Fund.
Renaisi is part of Serco’s network of expert organisations chosen to deliver the Inspiring Families programme on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions.
Serco delivers the Inspiring Families programme in Haringey, Hackney, Enfield, Waltham Forest, Redbridge, Tower Hamlets, Newham, Greenwich, Barking & Dagenham and Havering.
