Heart of the South West Apprenticeship Service aims to support people in employment to undertake an Apprenticeship.

Apprenticeships are a great way of developing your workforce, allowing you to bring new talent through the ranks and train your team with the skills they need to help your business succeed.

The service offers a support, advice and brokerage service that will help you to:


  • Decide which Apprenticeships are right for your existing employees
  • Find a local Apprenticeship provider that can support you
  • Find out what Government Funding is available to you
  • Understand the implications of the Apprenticeship Levy to your business
  • Solve recruitment challenges by explaining the services available to you on recruiting new Apprentices.


Our skills service aims to enhance your employees’ skills, help them continue to higher level qualifications and Apprenticeships, take on more responsibility and help your business grow.

We can provide a bespoke training programme relevant to your business needs. You will benefit from a wide variety of recognised accredited qualifications and bespoke training courses like leadership and management, technical skills training and higher level skills.

We’re here to support local employers with outstanding learning and training opportunities. We offer the whole package; from initial skills analysis and a vast range of courses, to ongoing support and guidance. Whether you own a large business or are a sole trader, our team will work with you and your organisation to help your business reach its full potential.

Richard Huish College

There is a wide range of training opportunities available through Huish that ensures there is an appropriate way that you and your staff can engage in learning.
To decide the most suitable approach to training for you, our advisers will work with you to develop a training plan.
A range of Distance Learning options are provided allowing your employees to complete work at their own pace and in their own workplace or at home. Typically these programmes are around 12 weeks in length and are supported by nine hours of individual tutor support. Learners can gain qualifications, whilst minimising disruption to the workplace.
Bespoke Training may meet specific requirements raised in your training needs analysis carried out by our Business Development Advisers in partnership with you. These courses do not always lead to qualifications but will help to develop skills and knowledge of yourself and your staff.
Training and developing your employees can help your business stay ahead of the competition. This could be through mastering new technology, maximising the use of IT, improving customer service or working towards professional qualifications.
