Restart Scheme helps man get back on his feet after drug and aggression issues finds him homeless

16th Aug 2022 Restart Scheme

Justin* found himself homeless after being asked to leave his family home. He had issues with drug addiction and had never worked. Justin’s mum wanted to help him, but realised it was out of her control, so she went with him to the local Job Centre Plus to see if they could help.

Justin was able to join the Restart Scheme as he had been claiming Universal Credit. When he was introduced to his Job Coach – Helen Wase from Seetec Pluss – Helen put a big focus around his behaviour, and they talked about how his actions were being perceived. Carl – also from Seetec Pluss - assisted Justin with writing a CV, detailing his transferable skills. He also coached him with interview skills. Justin’s confidence was starting to grow and he was beginning to focus on getting a job.

When Helen discussed with Justin about the type of work he’d like to pursue, Justin showed an interest in building work. Helen was able to get Justin onto a funded Construction Skills Certificate Scheme (CECS) training course, which he passed successfully. Helen was then able to help Justin in securing a role at a construction site in a nearby town.

As well as now being employed in construction, Helen has continued to help Justin and he went on to sign up to a 3 week brick laying course. This will enhance his skills and knowledge in construction even more.

The support provided has resulted in a positive change in Justin’s outlook and behaviour and he has now been able to move back into his family home.
