Restart Scheme host work experience days in West Central and Wales

16th Sep 2022 Restart Scheme

In July this year, the Restart Scheme held 10-day work experience sessions for Restart Scheme Participants at their offices for West Central and Wales. The aim of the sessions was to support the Participants by giving them valuable work experience that they can include on their CVs when applying for jobs.

The 10-day sessions took place from 10am-1pm in three offices; Coventry, Birmingham and Cardiff. Each day, Participants were allocated to a different mentor from the Restart Scheme team.

Throughout the 10 days, the Participants were able to experience different job roles from the Employer Engagement, Training, Partnership, Social Value and Operations teams.

The day was split between work shadowing to finding out more about the job roles, followed by completing tacks related to the role.

Suki Gill, Social Value Lead on the Restart Scheme, organised the days and wanted to ensure that the work experience was varied and hands-on, rather than just shadowing. By completing tasks, the Participants were able to research and get a feel for the different roles available on the Restart Scheme.

The sessions were a success, and the Restart Scheme are looking to run work experience cohorts every quarter. Feedback from Participants included:

“The work experience showed me other parts of Restart Scheme that I wasn’t aware off, I will now keep an eye on the Restart Scheme website to see if any jobs in the future are suitable for me to apply for.”

“I loved participating in the delivery of the interview techniques session, it was really interactive and enjoyable.”

“I loved the Social Value Team session and the social value task that was given to complete, I enjoyed producing the quiz and poster on National South Asian Heritage month.”

“I loved observing the Operations team and seeing what they do on a daily basis.”

“Thank you for this great experience, I have enjoyed the past two weeks.”

“I enjoyed all of the practical sessions that the Training team delivered.”

“Big thank you to all the staff who helped and supported with the work experience project.”
