Restart Scheme supports single mum to find work in Administration

19th Jan 2023 Restart Scheme

Pelagie needed some help with her job search. She is a single mum who wanted to work in Administration but didn’t have any relevant experience. She was supported by her Job Coach Giorgia Marchisio-King, from the City of Wolverhampton Council, in creating a new CV, writing cover letters, interview techniques and confidence building. As well as this, Giorgia also supported Pelagie with sourcing a laptop from a local IT charity to help with her job searching and supplying work clothes for her to wear at interviews.

Once Pelagie’s job search was in progress, Giorgia recognised that although Pelagie was keen to work in Administration, her lack of experience was proving a barrier to getting the role she wanted.

Giorgia managed to help Pelagie get a volunteering role as a part-time Administrator. With this experience alongside the other coaching she was given, Pelagie secured a Level 3 Apprenticeship with Wolverhampton Council and was offered an Administration job at the Refugee and Migrant Centre.

Pelagie said:

She (Giorgia) was very helpful and patient. Always available anytime I was stuck with anything, even out of our normal appointment time. She helped me with applications and she sent me jobs. We did one-to-one job search and her and Jamie from Wolves at Work helped me to prepare for my interviews”.
