Wincanton PLC is a leading supply chain partner for British businesses, providing supply chain solutions across a wide range of sectors. With an almost 20,000-strong workforce across 200 sites, recruitment drives are common and this is where the Restart Scheme has been able to help.

Tailored skills development and coaching:

Môn CF, who support Serco’s delivery of the Restart Scheme, has helped Wincanton fill four full-time roles within Anglesey.  Môn CF was able to achieve this through:

  • Tailored pre-employability support, which included role specific training for each candidate, pre-screening and interview support.
  • An initial needs assessment determined that the four Participants should undertake funded Fire Safety, Vehicle Banksman, and Health and Safety training. Training was delivered free-of-charge by Môn CF through the Restart Scheme, to the benefit of both the Participant’s CVs, and the employer. Wincanton has onboarded crucial skills into the company, without needing to spend the time and monetary resource on upskilling the new recruits itself.
  • A tailored confidence building workshop was made available to one candidate to help improve their self-esteem.
  • Following successful recruitment, the Restart Scheme continued to deliver in-work assistance to help the business’ new employees settle in. Additional support included funding to cover their travel expenses until their first pay day, assistance with DBS checks and help to source the correct ‘Right to Work’ documentation.

Successful recruitment to support business growth:

Skye McMillan, Wincanton’s National Resourcing Advisor, said: “The turn out and calibre of candidates was much better than any of our team expected. It really has been pain-free with Restart Scheme assistance.”

Each Participant has successfully secured full-time employment at Wincanton and are delighted with the support delivered:

Amy*, Health and Safety Coordinator, Full-time

Facing redundancy, Amy was unemployed for a few months before securing the position as the company’s Health and Safety Coordinator:

“I didn’t want to work in Customer Service again, I wanted a change and my Job Coach put me forward. The training has been brilliant. It’s been great to get back there and interact and mingle again. I’ve found that my confidence is creeping back.”

Martin*, Data Administrator, Full-time

Unemployed for the past year, Martin was keen to see if his experience in retail was transferable into a new sector:

“[I now have a] very good job for the area, we don’t get many big contracts coming into Anglesey. I was working with my Job Coach for a few months, very quickly she introduced me to this position, very helpful in securing and preparing the interview.”

Dylan*, Data Administrator, Full-time

Within two months of working with his Job Coach, Dylan was coached on how to develop his CV, apply for the role and secure his new position:

“I’m on the other end of the worst time of my life. I wasn’t looking for anything in particular, I’d done admin, floristry, care work, waitressing. My Job Coach suggested it and I thought, why not just go for it!”

Edith*, Inspection Supervisor, Full-time

With previous experience as a Forklift Driver and Instructor, the role of Inspection Supervisor was an achievable progression for Edith to make, despite being unemployed for 22 months:

“It’s brilliant, I can’t believe it! I had been applying for everything but not getting jobs or feedback.”
