Peter overcomes challenging circumstances to find work via the Restart Scheme

13th Nov 2025 Restart Scheme

After years of battling addiction, Peter found himself in a very dark and difficult place. His circumstances led him to become involved with the wrong crowd, eventually resulting in a prison sentence. While this was a challenging time, Peter saw it as a turning point, a chance to reset his life. During his time in prison, he was able to get clean from drugs and upon release remained focused on building a better future.

For nearly a year, Peter faced constant rejection from employers and struggled to get responses to his job applications. Things began to change when he was referred to the Restart Scheme through his local Jobcentre Plus. Peter joined the Restart Scheme with Ingeus in Birmingham, where he was assigned Phoebe as his Job Coach.

Phoebe helped Peter create a professional CV and cover letter and encouraged him to attend workshops to build his skills and confidence. Through the scheme, Peter gained valuable knowledge about job searching and developed a stronger sense of self-belief. Phoebe noticed a significant improvement in his confidence and was able to put him forward for a role with AM2PM, a recruitment agency, which Peter successfully secured. This job marks a major milestone in Peter's journey - it not only provides him with financial independence but also helps him establish a routine and adapt to working life.

Peter is incredibly grateful for the support he received from the Restart Scheme and from Phoebe. He credits this opportunity with helping him turn his life around and is now looking forward to a brighter, more stable future.
