Kane joined the Restart Scheme in February 2025. Kane was assigned Oliver from Starting Point Recruitment as his Job Coach, who straight away identified him as the perfect candidate for the programme.
During his initial meeting, Kane shared that he had a law degree. However, during his studies, he soon realised that this wasn’t where his passion lay. Kane loved IT and wanted to build a career in this field. Despite wanting to switch career paths partway through his degree, Kane showed determination and commitment, ensuring he graduated with a Bachelor of Law degree in 2023. From there on, Kane put time and effort into all things related to IT. He committed to Netcom Training in 2024 and completed a Netacad IT Essentials 8 programme in 2025. Additionally, Kane began working towards a CompTIA A+ Certification.
Kane had been actively applying for roles and felt disappointed by the high number of rejections. He met with his mentor Jenny in early March. Kane felt reassured when Jenny explained that the issue didn’t lie with him – the Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) were rejecting his CVs based on structure. She got to work on guiding Kane straight away and helped him to create a strong, ATS friendly CV to be proud of.
Notably, Kane had never worked and was concerned by this. He attended all Restart Scheme Blue meetings on time and from day one, Jenny was impressed with Kane’s positive attitude and determination to succeed. Every week, Kane made excellent progress in terms of following guidance with his CV, cover letter, applications, and LinkedIn. He also engaged very well with mindset work and interview preparation guidance, and regularly used GetMee, an app that uses AI to support live interviews, giving feedback on answers and suggestions on how to improve.
This quickly started to create results, and Jenny was thrilled to hear that Kane had been selected for an interview just four weeks into his Restart Scheme Blue journey. He passed through stage 1, a video interview, with support from Jenny to further prepare for stage 2, which was Kane’s first in-person interview. Kane was over the moon to be offered a permanent, full-time IT Technician role, and he couldn’t wait to get started.
Jenny recently caught up with Kane for an in-work support meeting, and he shared that he is enjoying the role. He remains very thankful for his mentoring support on Restart Scheme Blue and is excited to build a sustainable career as an IT Technician.
