Restart Scheme

Flexi-role offered following pandemic redundancy

24th Sep 2021 Restart Scheme

Like many people working in retail, Tracy* was made redundant during the pandemic. And, whilst she loved spending more time with her children, her confidence in finding work suffered the longer she was unemployed. Finding it increasingly difficult to find opportunities with flexible hours to fit around her childcare responsibilities, Tracy worked with us to hone her transferable skillset.

She was wasn’t going to let a challenging situation beat her and had begun looking for an administrative role. But found it really difficult to find opportunities with flexible hours to fit around her childcare responsibilities.

Tracy joined the Restart Scheme and was assigned to a Reed in Partnership Job Coach. The first thing he did was to run a ‘better-off in work’ calculation to show Tracy she was entitled to enough childcare benefits to allow her to apply for a full-time role.

They then worked together to identify Tracy’s transferable skills and to polish her job search techniques, which paid off when she was offered an interview with a logistics firm in Telford.

To prepare, Tracy had a one-to-one interview support session. And she was overjoyed when she felt confident enough to negotiate a permanent fixed hour contract, which the employer was comfortable for her to flex around her childcare commitments.
