Serco Restart Scheme working in partnership with Randstad to create 43 jobs with Jaguar Land Rover

6th Dec 2022 Restart Scheme

Randstad and Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) are two names that a lot of people would be familiar with. Randstad, the largest recruitment agency in the world and a global leader in the HR services industry located in 39 countries around the world, and JLR, a British multinational car manufacturer which produces luxury vehicles and sports utility vehicles.

Randstad work with JLR to help fill their positions at various sites around the UK. The Serco Restart Scheme has been working with Randstad since January 2022 having maintained a long-standing relationship between Sue Gaskell, an Employment Engagement Coordinator for the Restart Scheme, and Randstad.

The Restart Scheme supports JLR’s Solihull, Wolverhampton, Castle Bromwich and Coventry businesses and, to date, the Scheme has provided 43 successful candidates who have worked at JLR, of which, 36 have stayed in employment. This has delivered a fantastic result of 83.3% of people staying in sustainable employment, which is the aim of the Restart Scheme.

Yasmin Brotherson, an Employment Engagement Coordinator for the Restart Scheme, manages the Scheme’s relationship for JLR recruitment via Randstad for the Birmingham, Solihull and Coventry sites. When they first came on board with the Restart Scheme, Yasmin worked with Randstad sought to tackle and improve the lengthy process for job seekers when they were being interviewed for the roles at JLR to create a more simplified process. She also organised a pre-application screening process at Restart Scheme offices, where she detailed the requirements for the job role to Restart Scheme Participants e.g. Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) security check, drug and alcohol testing, working hours/pattern etc. This ensures Participants are fully briefed and can decide their suitability for the roles. Following this, Yasmin helped suitable Participants then complete an online application form which determined if they would be put forward for an interview.

Interviews take place onsite with Randstad and Yasmin would help process Participants’ travel expenses. Participants would find out if they had been successful or not within a couple of days.

The partnership between the Restart Scheme and Randstad has been very successful. Yasmin has the experience and knowledge to ensure she is delivering quality candidates for the roles at JLR and her strong relationship with representatives at Randstad ensures efficient support for everyone.

Lee Booth, Senior Account Manager for Randstad In-house Services, said:

“I facilitate the link up of external providers. I act as a ‘go-to’ if there are any issues on outcomes. The feedback from the team is very positive, the relationship is really good. The proof is in the pudding with the numbers of people now in employment at JLR. There can be a bit of scepticism working with some partners, for various reasons, but if we can produce these kinds of numbers and create this success story, it bodes well for other sites within Randstad and for future recruitment for JLR.”

Yasmin said:

“The roles the Participants have been undertaking are as Production Operatives. Feedback is good and people are staying in the job which shows they are happy working at JLR. Also, the rate of pay is very good which helps. A lot of people have friends that already work there too.”

According to Lee at Randstad, using the Restart Scheme has been such a great result for Randstad and JLR. He said:

“I think you have to look at the reasons as to ‘why not’ use the Restart Scheme! In a candidate market, especially, you are looking for the avenues to generate as many candidates and successful outcomes as you can. I would question any business as to why they wouldn’t use the Restart Scheme. The results are in the numbers.”

“It’s been a really positive experience for us and I’d like to thank Yasmin and the team for all of their support on all the roles for all of the sites. We hope to continue to work together in the future.”
