Restart Scheme supports ex-offender turn their life around with a new job

18th Jul 2022 Restart Scheme

After spending time in prison, James* severely lacked self-confidence believing he would not be able to get a good job again. Despite having managerial experience, he didn’t feel he would be able to achieve a position at the same level due to his criminal record, so he was willing to settle for any role.

When James met with Antonio, his Ingeus Job Coach with the Restart Scheme, Antonio could see his potential and suggested that he apply for a managerial role at Jaguar Land Rover at the Solihull site. James agreed to give it a go, however, he was not optimistic due to being declined a role with the company previously.

Antonio helped James complete the pre-screen form, review and update his CV, and made sure it was well structured to best present his skills and experience. He also worked with James to provide additional support which included a 1-2-1 motivation session and conveyed his faith in James’ abilities.

The support and encouragement really helped, and James was offered a full-time position as Production Operative at Jaguar Land Rover. Antonio was also able to arrange short term funding to help James cover the cost of travel until he earned his first pay cheque.

Antonio said:

“When I first met with this participant, I could clearly see his potential and skill set, all I needed to do was point him in the right direction and get him to believe in himself.

When I received the call to confirm he had started, I felt good that I have made a difference to someone’s life. Hearing his voice and listening to him making future plans reminded me that I had chosen the right career.”
