Steven Secures a Security Role through the Restart Scheme

15th Jan 2024 Restart Scheme

Steven had been unemployed for 3 years and suffered from Diabetic Neuropathy, finding standing and walking difficult. Steven had a lack of motivation and felt that he was unable to work due to his health.

Working with his Job Coaches, Beth Allen and Elaine Greenall, Steven was supported with developing his CV and accessing training courses to help build his confidence. Steven also enrolled onto a course from Lantra, a leading awarding body for land-based industries in the UK and Ireland, and completed a qualification in Mowers, Brush Cutters and Trimmers. After completing the course, Steven realised that his health was improving and felt that he was able to do more than he thought initially.

Steven enjoyed the courses and asked to be put on more, including the Emergency First Aid at Work, and Health & Safety in the Workplace course, before being successful at interview for the Security and Industry Authority (SIA) course in February 2023.

As a result of his hard work, Steven is now a Security Officer at Bangor Management Centre, working at least 4 shifts per week on nights. Most importantly, he is enjoying his role and is eager to pick up additional hours. Steven sees this as a huge step forward, undertaking sustainable employment for the future to support his family. He has now ordered his first passport and is looking towards his first holiday abroad.

From feeling unable to return to employment, Steven is now in full-time work, picking up as many shifts as possible, and has found a role that he is physically able to do and thoroughly enjoys.
