Restart Scheme

“I am over the moon with the result” - Llanelli man secures job at Tesco

2nd Feb 2022 Restart Scheme

When Brian* was referred onto the Restart Scheme he said he had a “low expectation” and was worried it would all be a “waste of time”. But wanting to change careers to get into retail so he could support his family, Brian recognised he needed support as he had no previous experience in the sector.

As Brian was keen to undertake training to help him secure a position, his Job Coach at PeoplePlus, Karen, supported him to access training courses which would improve his employability prospects. Once Brian had completed the customer service, first aid and fire warden training courses, he then enrolled onto PeoplePlus’ ‘Movement to Work’ course which included a placement so he could gain valuable experience.

The course went so well, Brian was offered a job! The only sticking point was it came with daytime hours which was not ideal for Brian as he was looking for night shifts to fit around his childcare responsibilities, but he was willing to give it a go.

Since then, Brian has been offered a permanent job as a Merchandiser at Tesco in Llanelli working night shifts which was what he was looking for. Brian is delighted:

“[The Restart Scheme] has far exceeded my expectations and I have been really impressed with how Karen has got things done by getting me on the courses I asked for within the first two weeks. I am over the moon with the result. Karen has been a superstar and been straight with me from day one which is exactly what I wanted. Thank you for all your help.”
