Megan* had been unemployed since 2009, due to this long-term period of unemployment, Megan was suffering from severe confidence and anxiety issues when she joined the Restart Scheme in November 2021. With the help of her Job Coach Josh, she overcame these barriers to secure a full-time position in the care sector.
Laura* had always dreamed of utilising her Illustration degree and becoming a professional Tattoo Artist, but she’d faced several barriers in life, such as caring responsibilities, which have held her back. Fortunately, with the help of her People Plus Job Coach, Laura is now on-track to realising her dream.
After 17 years in a job, Chris was devastated when he was made redundant in 2020 as a result of the pandemic. This was followed by a year of countless job application rejections which severely knocked his confidence. He suffered another blow when a close family member passed away but such was his determination to find work, he resolved to continue his search for employment through the support of the Restart Scheme.
Two complementary adult employability and education programmes joined forces to bring together the wider adult support community for the benefit of jobseekers in the Black Country. Serco’s Restart Scheme worked with Sandwell Adult and Family Learning (SAFL) to provide an upskilling information. 11 organisations attended to provide information about the holistic support that attendees can tap into, with some organisations already seeing referrals from the day.
